The Outside | Swift Saturdays

Swift Saturdays

I tried to take the road less traveled by
But nothing seems to work the first few times

.

We are living in a world where everything is created for us. That even the path of non-conforming is already filled with choices. But one thing I don’t understand is that the majority almost always win. Fine, they are superior and the human race should favor them because they’re greater in number, and in most cases all of us are part of a certain majority. But why are those who opt to differ are deemed as weird, off, eccentric, or even crazy? Most people just don’t seem to care, let alone hear them out. What we don’t understand is that they have a reason why they are where they are. It’s difficult to be on the road less traveled by. I’ve been there, and I’m not blocking my route to the possibility of being there again, and it’s tough. People always question you, and once you give them the answers, they question you some more. They wanna know, but they don’t wanna understand. Like having a pen without the ink, it doesn’t serve its purpose, and never will.

Swift Aftertaste

Bitter: The taste of frowning neighbors, whispering mates, and questioning friends.

Sweet: The taste of making your own decisions, taking care of your responsibilities, and facing the consequences afterwards.

Swift Discussion

How was your experience in the road less traveled by?

  1. That is so true. Some people just never want you to move forward or even try out new things. Above all they try to convince you that they are right, even they themselves are doubtful. The last 3 sentences are just so truly written. Well done πŸ™‚

      1. Yeah i guess. This reminds me of morticia addams: “what is normal for the spider is chaos for the fly”. Perspective, i guess.

  2. Have you ever thought that these people do know better? It’s strange to say it.

I used to rebel against normality and expectation in small doses, by listening to weird bands and having a strange interest in things that other people didn’t care for.

I used to think that the people around me were narrow minded. Perhaps in some ways they were, or perhaps they just thought that the time and effort of being different just wasn’t worth the time.

It’s hard work trying to be unique. That’s probably why few people try it. So much time has to be spent into being different, but where does that leave you in the grand scheme of things. In the end we all need a roof over our heads and jobs to pay for food and bills. We can’t all be wandering down the roads less travelled, unless we are OK with being poor, or we have lots of someone else’s money to support us.

That’s why I think parents and guardians are so hesitant to let us do it, because they see how hard it is to be a success story through being unique. Perhaps they just want what’s best for us… Or just maybe they’re jealous of our youthful spirits and our need to explore and be different. After all they had to make the same choice, and they choice the safer and hard working option. That’s why we can have a place to go home each night and a bed to fall asleep in. They did what was best for us.

    1. You put it in a different light, more specifically, the practical one. I’m lucky that my parents would let me do what I want. I couldn’t fathom the idea of someone telling me, or worse asking me, where to go.

These people do know better. And I feel like they care more. Just imagine letting go of what you truly want for the sake of other people. Even the thought saddens me.

  3. The road less traveled has been a bumpy one….but I wouldn’t change the experience for anything. Sometimes the hard lessons are necessary! Enjoyed reading!

    1. The journey is always the one we want to keep forever. It is where we felt all the emotions, and they are real. The end of the road could be just as sweet as the journey!

  4. I don’t think it’s about travelling the road less travelled. It’s not about being unique at all. Being one in a million also means that there are 700 people just like you, and the fight to stay unique, isn’t unique at all. Everyone is unique. Everyone wants to be unique. Everyone says so. And if everyone says so, it isn’t unique at all, which further leads to nonsensical blabbering in a loop without a knot.

It’s rather about getting to do what you want, travelling on the path you want, without pushing anyone down. Maybe you could jump up on the railing and go if you want to go faster, but what’s the use of going faster if there’s no-one with you and you didn’t enjoy the ride? πŸ™‚

    1. Yea actually. I read this quote somewhere and it stuck on my mind: We are all trying to be different, which makes us all the same.

This is really about choosing your own path and having people to back you up. Well sometimes they don’t even need to support us, as long as they understand and let us do our thing.

  5. HiYa BRB πŸ™‚
I’m not sure the majority always win, I think maybe the person prepared to be the bossiest and meanest wins? But then again… what do they win?
The reasons I love the people I love, is that we are very much the same, and that’s different to a lot of people I meet…
    Cool Swift Saturday!
